voting with your dollar

This deserves a bump! C'mon ladies. Only 15 women registered for this race? It's a fabulous course and a CAT 4-only women's race. Pen Velo likely won't offer CAT4 women next year, so we won't get a chance again until 2009.

Pen Velo and Pilarcitos made good on their promise from last year -- they are running a women's CAT4 field at the Burlingame Crit in 2007. Registration is open, ladies! Let's show them how excited we are about this!

Many of the CAT4-only races have sold out this season. Maybe the promoters who insist on combining the CAT4 women with the CAT3s (or in open women's races) and then complain about low registration will figure this out. CAT4-only races are good for your bottom line. Combined races aren't. We'll show you some love if you show us some, too!

I told Ms. Chatterbox she should sign up, but she does not think this is enough of a reason to return from Canuckistan a few days early. Have fun, eh.

Yeah, the whole ladies complaining about not getting races then not signing up isn't working out so well.

People can't expect promoters to take a loss just to give them the option of racing. "If you build it they will come" is more like "if they don't come we won't build it".

Nome, while I agree with you, I also feel strongly that pre-registration numbers don't indicate what the field will be on race day. But sometimes racers need a little nudge. I personally know about a dozen women who plan to race Burlingame who aren't registered yet.

I can tell you from my personal pov that I didn't race your crit because it was a combined field. If you had done a W4-only race I would've been there in a heartbeat.

Women don't preregister because they know their fields won't fill up, so they know they can enter at the event. Men pre-register because they know if they don't, they likely won't get into the event. I resent that we're supposed to pre-register to make a statement of our intent. That's not why men pre-register. Maybe reduce the entry limit so women feel the crunch? Seriously, reduce the limit to the average number of attendees, and you'll see women's races filling fast.

Kate, you're absolutely correct, especially for W1/2/3 events. The exception for the CAT 4 women are those few races that ALWAYS fill up -- Snelling is one example, although now Robert has been adding a second field for the W4.

Also, with online registration, racers can see how full a field is so there's no sense of urgency to register.

You are too sweet! I will have to win me some prize money tonight to get my camera up and running for you!

That course looks scary, and the Cat 4 women start at 7:50. What time does a girl from Santa Cruz have to leave if she tries to help make your Cat 4 dream come true?

Sweet Cheeks, the course is great! The pack gets a bit spread out with the chicane. Pavement is okay. You could totally do it! I've got a houseguest Saturday night or I'd invite you spend the night at my place.

I am thinking next year we will do two women's fields.
Masters Women 35+ 3/4 and Women 4.
What do you think?
We will certainly consider any feedback that the ladies have.

Maybe even a Earlybird like clinic if VG will lead it.

The juniors didn't support us very well this year. We paid 10 deep and had 8 Juniors. Actually, those 8 got two rounds of prizes. Probably close to and average of $150.00 worth of shwag each.

ok, great course - but $45 for a 40 minute crit, and it's a 1/2/3....hmm...

i think all races should have a minimum of 2 women's fields

and if they do at least that, i don't complain about how they split those 2 fields up

but it would be great to have more master's fields!
